Together Can Be Streamed, and It Might Make or Break Your Romantic Bond.

Here's a test for long-term couples who enjoy horror films: Settle in with your partner and stream Together. This critically acclaimed 2025 movie just made its launch on a streaming platform via Hulu. On the surface, it might appear like standard physical horror, but within Together lies a profound examination about the ways we decide to love our partners.

An Introductory Film Investigating Partnership Complexities

Together is the introductory feature for filmmaker Michael Shanks. It showcases actors Alison Brie and Dave Franco as Millie and Tim, partners that have stayed together for ten years. United in marriage in actuality in 2017, Franco and Brie bring a special spark to their portrayals, masterfully depicting both the strengths and weaknesses of a committed partnership.

The narrative begins when Tim and Millie transition from the urban environment to the countryside for Millie’s job. A familiar narrative setup, of course, but that’s mostly where the cliches end. Together evolves into as much a psychological exploration of the couple's dynamic as it is a film about physical terror.

A Paranormal Spark

While trekking near their new home, a violent storm occurs, and Millie and Tim tumble into an underground cave. After being trapped overnight there and eventually escaping, a supernatural entity starts to affect the couple. This force induces a paranormal intimacy between them that goes far beyond typical partnership.

The whole movie is a slow burn horror experience, blending moments of dreamlike terrors, unsettling (but not excessively graphic) physical transformations, and authentically humorous dialogue (sometimes amidst something disturbing). Michael Shanks orchestrates these parts neatly and wraps them up in a slowly mounting aura of dread.

Layered Performances

A large part of Together is solely the two lead actors, and they masterfully render numerous complexities to the characters’ relationship. Her self-assurance and feeling of intimacy is suffering due to a lack of intimacy. Her underlying frustration of Tim for his hesitance to focus on anything other than his failing musical ambitions gradually emerges.

Tim, on the other hand senses confinement and separated by Millie, who’s the reason they’ve relocated rural and distant from his network of friends. He fears the concept of utterly sacrificing his personal autonomy in Millie. This fear is amplified by the circumstance he lacks a driver's license and relies on Millie for transportation.

The director's cleverest decision in Together refrains from painting either of his characters the definite antagonist.

Both characters grapple with the kind of problems that are inherent in most partnerships over a long period. Deep down, they continue to care for one another. They share moments of joy, provide solace, and share intimately at times. But under the surface, there’s an inescapable feeling of questioning about their future together.

Symbolism and Metaphor

While the paranormal elements in Together symbolize these fears of codependency and fully committing to another person, the symbolism avoids being clumsy or self-important. Instead, these visceral horror elements offer a ideal counterpart to the interpersonal storytelling. Both the horror and the drama work together in harmony.

A Debated Finale

Together’s conclusion, which is best experienced firsthand, has left audiences divided on the film’s ultimate message about codependent relationships. Accounts suggest that unattached audience members have interpreted the film as a strong argument for remaining unattached. Meanwhile, some couples who were in conflict found that the film ended up guiding them to reconcile.

Whether you’re single or coupled up, your own interpretation could act as a great barometer of how you perceive partnership. Will the finale inspire a sense of discomfort and fear, or a positive outlook on love? Will you recognize your own traits in Tim or Millie and yell at the screen, or simply glance toward your partner and utter, “I understand that choice”?

Regardless of the outcome, Together is an test you can undertake right now.

Together is available to watch on Hulu's platform now.
